Tops and Bottoms of Longbox Mountain.

Morning.

A little late I know. I’ve been travelling a lot and arrived in Baltimore at 3am UK time this morning. I’m over for the Baltimore ComicCon on Friday. Going to be touring the lanes with my buddies Cliff Cumber and Matt Strott. Then all three of us are off to SPX in Bethesda to meet up with Adam Falp, Sam from Nobrow and Eddie from Strangers.

If you are at either then please say hi.

Speaking of Cliff. We are steadily working on Tony Osmond issue 2 and the pages he has been sending are outstanding. I’ve just sent him the closing pages to the story and am nervously waiting to see if he digs the ending. More on that project soon. Here’s a little tease from a WIP.

Cliff nails the acting in a WIP from Tony Osmond issue 2.

Tribute are also looking to release a collection of some comics by myself and Falpy that you may well not have seen before. I’ll keep you posted. They’re not for the faint of heart – you know who you are!

Back to the task at hand. It’s been a busy comics week and I’m almost at the 4k mark for numbers off issues that I’ve read this year. I’ll be taking a look at highs and lows and specific trends when the year comes round at the end of October.

Honestly it hasn’t been as interesting a week for new releases. I’ve tried pretty much everything coming out from the big companies but none have been hitting my biscuit. I’ve also had a few Indie and Small Press comics through the door in the last month but none of them are any good. I rarely throw comics away, for these unnamed couple I made an exception. (Please note that someone on Twitter is claiming I mean them as you read this – their deluded self-importance knows no end).

A chunk of my reading has been older comics this week. I reread the JRJR X-Men issues and am almost finished a reread of Uncanny X-Force. Now that’s good Mutant comics right there!

But as promised here are the good and bad of the week.

Tops.

Tim Seeley, Tony Fleecs and company have been really hitting some sweet spots with their nineties Image Comics (kinda) homage comic. After the first arc we get a massive crossover that is genuinely hard to imagine how they pulled it off considering all the different characters they use. I suppose at the very least it goes to show that the comic industry can work together if given half a chance.

If i said the word ‘Deathmatch’ would that put a smile on your face?

Better than the original!

Bottoms.

Has anyone so failed to understand Captain Britain more than Tini Howard. This is laughably bad. I read it on the Marvel app but am reliably told it has been cancelled. Thank Merlin!

Dear Marvel – can we just have a half decent Captain Britain comic please.

I also see that Howard has gone to work on Batman at DC Comics.

Why?!?!

More soon. I’m off for a kip.

Many thanks for reading.
