Nice Shirts and Laughs in Baltimore.

I spent Last Friday at the Baltimore Comic Con with buddies Matt Strott and Cliff Cumber and came away pretty impressed with the set up and reception. Matt was super kind and got be a local Baltimore Orioles T- shirt and most exciting of all some brilliant Atomic Hercules art AND a preview version of his new comic – more on that soon, but it looks amazing!!!

Here’s Cliff chatting to Ted Sikora.

From the moment we walked into the Convention staff were helpful and friendly. A couple of the guys on the door even recommended a spot to get some lunch.

I’d stumped up some extra cash for a VIP ticket that got me in a half an hour early so I made the most of it and headed for Howard Chaykin’s table.

Some art I bought from Mr C.

I’ve been a massive fan and was not disappointed when I finally got to have a chat with Howard. We seemingly talked for ages. From comics and art to our favourite Shakespeare. I’d urge you to sign up for his Substack to see how a master of our craft thinks and operate. Walking away from the conversation I felt like I’d already had my moneys worth.

After a chat with David Pepose about his work on the new Punisher series I headed for the back issue bins and filled the rucksack. Here’s just a taster of some of the books I grabbed.

Our old pal Steve Conley was present with all his books and as always an hilarious joy to talk with.

When Matt met Steve!

The whole event had a theme. Honestly I was pinching myself as this year it was around the eighties and nineties phenomenon that was First Comics. So Mike Grell, Jim Starlin, Steve Rude and more were present. I managed to get ten minutes with Mike Gold who was lovely!!!

Other guests we three descended on included Marc Hampel, Wendy Pini and Garth Ennis. Mr Ennis was looking cool in his ‘genuinely purchased in Hawaii’ Hawaiian shirt. Seemingly Cliff was rather jealous.

My buddy Matt Strott – look at that beaut!

We walked away men inspired by the love for the medium and ready to encounter a whole new experience at SPX.

Watch the site for the next thrilling instalment.

Many thanks for reading.
