A Year.

I’ve just finished the ongoing comics project. And am now going to spend a few weeks getting the data organised and thinking about it.

For exactly a year at midnight I’ve been noting down all the comics I’ve read and giving them a 1-10 rating on my personal enjoyment.

My number for 12 months is 4528 comics. I’d set up rules for myself which I’ll explain in a blog post soon. For example, a single comic counted as one as did a thick Manga or ‘Graphic Novel’. I’m also going to examine reading habits and how they’ve changed in a year. New vs Old. Online vs Physical. Indie vs Mainstream etc. what I enjoy in webcomics, page counts, art styles etc.

Today ended well. Four 10/10s – which is a first for me. Two were old back issues (x-Men and Iron Man – with bundles of nostalgia at play). But two were new! Monica by Clowes and The Hunger and the Dusk 3 from G. Willow Wilson, Chris Wildgoose and Co at IDW.

I’ve been reading rather than doing other pastimes (not that) and cut evening TV and movies out. The Marvel and DC apps have been super useful when I’ve been travelling about. I’ve also found a space every morning 6.30-7.30am that’s great to read in with nobody bothering me. What a blast of a 12 months!

Many thanks for reading.
