Tops and Bottoms 13/11/2024.

Morning Folks!

Bit early this week.

It’s been a big comics week. I got into Gosh to pick up the weekly pile of comics. Met up with buddy and comics editor Aaron Rackley and we headed off to inspect the venue for the 500th Awesome comics Pod in January. I was immediately impressed by this painting that hung on the wall. The signs are good for a fun day in January.

Because I like to post stupid things in the ACP Slack I sent them the above only for that all round good egg Mark Abnett to create a masterpiece similar but featuring my own rascal called Sharknado. Doesn’t he look posh! Thanks dude, you made my day!

Over at the ACP this week we had our buddy Matthew Schofield (Steamroller Man) on to help us chat about the new Absolute line from DC, how influences work and also run through a big list of recommendations and reviews! We also laugh at how my wife tried to hire a hitman. If you head over to Kickstarter you can also sign up for the second issue of Steamroller Man when it drops! Highly recommended.

Here’s just a small sample of the other comics we cover!

I’ve got a drama-filled day so let’s get quickly on to business.

Small Press Comic of the Week.

Lots of contenders this week but the one that really lit my fuse was something from Global Comix.

Part fantasy morality play and part webcomics Richard Corben this was a lovely surprise when I was scrolling through the indie comics on the app. It’s only nine pages and is self-contained but has a strange but peaceful mood about the pages we see. Great use of the digital medium.

Tops.

It’s difficult to talk about this final issue in the arc without spoiling who is in it and what happens. Being ever so careful I can say that it focuses in on Simon Pure and his immortality by introducing a theme of mortality. And more importantly what we do with our limited time on this planet. My favourite issue in a great run and in contention for one of my favourite single issues of the year.

Bottoms.

At more than five quid for a digital issue this is not only easily the worst written comic I read this week/month/year but also the biggest waste of my hard-earned cash. She was a fun and well used character in the Deadpool movies right. This takes that feeling and personality into the yard and shoots it in the head.

I am literally dumbfounded at this writer’s complete inability to write something even vaguely coherent. No story, no character, not funny and I feel like I have had £5 stolen straight from my pocket!

Avoid.

Thanks for reading. See you next week and remember, never take a triple dose of viagra before an operation.

Be safe!
