Tops and Bottoms – 30th April 2025.

Talk is not cheap, it’s free.

Over the last seven days I’ve recorded four podcasts with comics pals new and old. Wasn’t planned. At least not at that hourly rate. But a lot of fun ‘work’ was involved.

“Don’t list them!” I hear you shout.

Fuck you! I’m listing them.

Some comics goodness from podcast host Mr J Cannon.

First up was the brilliantly named ‘In Full Disclosure’. Hosted by Jonny Canon with myself and Adam Falp joining in the fun. A lively, raucous, rude, and mostly puerile round table format. We had a blast. But that quiz was totally fixed! We also get a little profound in a couple of answers. Well worth a listen on a long drive or a short cliff. Click right here for V.I.P. Access

Radiant Black in full-effect.

Next up was the ACP. This was a bumper ‘extra-length’ episode. We start off with Kyle (‘Nightwing’, ‘Radiant Black’ and ‘Massive-verse’) Higgins. He talks at length about his ongoing series and a few movie projects. He also employs so-called ‘Black Light’ so be careful where you shine that thing!

We then moved into some Convention and British Comics talk with the best Festival host out there Su Haddrell. She spills on all the news for the Lawless Convention coming to Bristol at the end of May. Click here for tickets! We then transition over to reviews, recommendations, shout outs and small press chat.

Myself and Eamonn Clarke then met in cyberspace on Monday night to record two podcasts. One you can find here and over at Never Iron Anything all about the cartoonist Gerald Scarfe. No stone (or cocktail) was left unturned in our quest to uncover this master of his craft. Eamonn always brings his ‘A’ game and this was great fun. Have a listen here and let us know your thoughts.

The other recording with Eamonn was for the mighty Mega City Book Club. Chuffed to be invited back on for something that may get a little nasty. Coming your way in a few short weeks. Click here to explore the inventory!

Onwards to some form of organised nonsense. No ‘Small Press Book of the Week’ today as nothing tickled my cabbage.

That leaves us with the Tops and Bottoms of my weekly read pile.

Top.

As the inevitable creaking bones and sore back of old age arrives so does the need to return to the glory days – for me, in comics. This book reminded me how great Vertigo Comics were in the nineties. Full throttled imagination and a follow through often with different and brilliant art. Weston and Co brought home the prize easily this week.  I missed the singles, don’t miss the trade.

Bottom.

I don’t understand…

What any of this crap means!

Oh well, it’s a new comics week. Let’s see what breaks.

Thanks for reading.
