The Top and The Bottom 10/04/2024

Morning everyone.

Not a long one this morning as I’m about to present a paper and lots going on.

Comics on the other hand continues onwards. I say that with confidence aware that many are trying to sabotage its existence on social media. The unimportant and real world incompetent attempting to scratch out some attention on Twitter and elsewhere is not and never has been comics. It is worth saying that again. The nasty and the deluded live there and live only for there. It is not a healthy place. God forbid they should say that stuff in the real world. Some truly horrible stuff is being said/claimed/shouted online and people should be ashamed of themselves.

Take the healthy option. If you haven’t got the backbone to say it to someone’s face then don’t hide behind a keyboard. Get off the hamster wheel of your phone and let the man rest in peace.

Meanwhile, over at the ACP Podcast this week we have guest artist Matt Strott and discuss some formative comics for each of us. We also have Jordan from Zoop on to chat about some upcoming projects. Unicorns will never be the same!

Back to the task at hand.

Here are my favourite and least favourite comics that I have read this last week.

Top.

Incredible art and fun action style storytelling. I’ve been loving the Ghost Machine work long before it got the branding and this mini-imprint. All the books are well worth your time and ahead of anything currently being published at the Big Two.

If you have a look and enjoy Rook: Exodus then dig out Junkyard Joe. It was one of my favourite comics of last year and by a couple from the Ghost Machine team. It’s got a lot of heart.

Bottoms.

Not a criticism of an attempt at making comics for kids again. That is needed. But actually try and put some effort in. This stuff is so half-arsed it makes my eyes ache.

Many thanks for reading. See you next week.
