Tops and Bottoms for 17/4/2024

Morning!

I’m just back from a loooong work trip that took me to Cardiff and Cornwall. Nine days, four hotels and the boot of a car that looks like a messy wardrobe. But like all comics fans I was on the sniff for new experiences. I’m guessing like a lot of you I always look for comics shops and second hand bookshops in the places I travel to. This week I found a cracker at ‘Into the Realm’ in Saint Austell. A smallish shop solo run by the wonderful Wendy. It is full of UK weeklies (a newly purchased run of Battle was a lovely discovery) and some excellent Silver and Bronze Age DC Comics at great prices. For those in the mood for some paperback/prose action she also has a science fiction bookshop next door.

Highly recommended. Here is the haul.

This week over at the ACP podcast we have our buddy Matt Simmons on to chat about his new Comics venture. You can find details of his new Zine Stall in Lancaster right here. Matt is one of my favourite people and talks honestly here about the challenges of creating a comics business. We also talk about bumholes (again).

Back to the task at hand.

Top.

This one sneaked in at the last minute as I have literally just read it. I have also messaged the creator telling her that she broke me and that I have some dust in my eye! Helena Edwardson has again made a comic that puts it all out there. It shows the love for her and Damian’s brilliant rescue dog Marty along with an insight into her own life. If you didn’t back this on Kickstarter already you need to go to their website and grab a copy! Helena is a friend, running mentor and oft-collaborator. We chat about our mutual rescue dogs. If you read this and fancy donating to a good cause, then have a look at The Dogs Trust, great people and more importantly, great dogs!!

Bottom.

What happened to that character’s head?!

Speak soon!

Many thanks for reading.
